Rules for the Dark Lord's Challenge

Congratulations, you’ve accepted the task of being the newest Death Eater to join the Dark Lord’s ranks. Now, you will be asked to go through a series of trials to determine if you are worthy of this title. You will seek out several Death Eaters around the site and answer their riddles. Using the answer to the riddles you will solve their final puzzle to locate the next Death Eater you are to report to. The first ten people who finish with their missions will move on the semi final dueling round.

To help you figure out if you’ve selected the correct stories to answer the riddle will be the Dark Oracle. She is your guide so use her often. You ill plug in the answer to the riddle and the story URL you think relates to the riddle’s answers. You MUST pair them up correctly! You will need ALL YOUR ANSWERS (answer to the riddles, story URL, and final puzzle answers) to become a finalist.

Remember, DO NOT post your answers in public. Death Eaters are malicious and clever. They don’t share for there can be only one winner. The grand prize for this amazing competition is a signed autograph photograph of Ralph Fiennes. Good luck!

A Painful Goodbye

written by: Scarhead

It is with great sorrow that I post today. As many of you know, HPFF’s dedicated and loyal house elf, Star Bucky has passed away. I know I speak for all the staff when I say how deeply saddened we all are from this unexpected tragedy.

Although the details surrounding the beloved elf’s death are still shrouded in mystery, a full investigation is underway. The Ministry of Magic has dispatched a team of highly skilled Aurors to HPFF to find the answers that we are all searching for.

A private funeral was held for Star Bucky late yesterday afternoon; all staff members were in attendance. The overcast sky threatened to rain down but held off until Jay had delivered his touching eulogy which told of the hard working elf’s devotion to this site and its members, and ended it by placing a single cruller on the headstone. There wasn’t a dry eye to be seen.

The staff room is still in a state of shock of the sudden demise of the beloved elf. Some are dealing with it better than others. LogicalRaven has been spotted several times weeping into her cauldron, while the other raven (RavenGryffendor) seems to have taken to Star Mochee (among others) during her time of need. Other staffers have been consoling each other with tales of Star Bucky’s antics of the past. Mentions of April Fool’s Day, site competitions and scrubbing the queue all lead to memories of Star Bucky and inevitably, tears.

Star Bucky is survived by his two cousins; Kreemy Krisp and Star Mochee who have taken over Star Bucky’s duties on the site. The staff and members are adjusting to the change.

Star Bucky will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest in peace our little friend. Rest in peace.

Star Bucky.

PHP coder required.

Due to our coder taking a very long leave of absence, HPFF requires a PHP coder to help further develop the site. If you are proficient in PHP and would like to help re-code the archive please get in touch.

Please be aware that you will need to have a full understanding of PHP and MySql integration.

As with all work on this site, it is non-profit and unpaid. But having said that we did recently raise over $700 towards payment for our last coder to update a few things. :)

Please mail me: support at harrypotterfanfiction dot com if you are interested. Thanks.

Logical's Attack, Star Bucky's Death and the Missing Riddles

For those of you who haven’t heard… our beloved Star Bucky, the site elf, has been killed. The other night as I prepared the final riddles for the upcoming competition on HPFF I sent Star Bucky on an errand. I needed my very special coffee laced with Inspiration Draught to help me think of a few more clever rhymes. I simply could not think of a word that rhymed with ‘orange.’

As I labored I heard Star Bucky in the hallway talking to himself (he has/had a habit of doing that), “Poor Star Bucky he must pick up these doughnuts for Master Jay or else he will have to iron his hands.”

After a couple minutes I heard a terrible scream followed by the sounds of spilling coffee and crumbing doughnuts. I ran into the corridor to see what all the racket was when I saw a long trail of crumbs leading into Jay’s office. When I opened the door I saw a ragged piece of cloth, possibly a jumper, attempting engulf somebody or something.

I whipped out my wand and demanded the enchanted whatever it was to cease with its attack or I’d be forced to riddle it to death. What happened next gets a little fuzzy. There was a sinister laugh and then the thing (whatever it was) attacked me. My wand flew out of my hand before I could even react. I heard Star Bucky screaming for it to release me and I think the little guy even tried to pry it off my head but he was unsuccessful. Star Bucky’s cries died a moment later when I heard the sounds of something being dunked into a boiling liquid.

I managed to climb to my knees and I crawled out of Jay’s office. I think I even managed to call out for help a few times but before knew it I collapsed from exhaustion. When I came to I was in melihobbit’s broom closet.

After my terrible ordeal I was asked to report to the Department of Mysteries to give them testimony on the enchanted garment that attacked me but I was not notified of Star Bucky’s death **sniffles** until later that day when one of the Auror’s at the Department showed me the horrible picture and then asked me to identify Star Bucky’s body.

I was in denial… I’ll admit it. I refused to accept that Star Bucky had indeed been killed trying to protect me. I’m highly suspicious of this Tara Theede character who I saw carrying around a list that looked like my riddles that Star Bucky had been keeping safe for me. When I returned to Jay’s office late last night I found two new house elves snooping around my (now empty) Coffee Cauldron.

One of odd creatures threw themselves at my feet and begged me to tell them that it isn’t true, that Star Bucky wasn’t dead. My denial had finally been broken and I realized the terrible truth. I tried to comfort this rather plump elf with really bad pink lipstick but my words failed me. Instead I bent down and picked up one of the doughnuts left behind by the attacker and handed it to her. (I think she likes doughnuts.)

Her companion wasn’t quite as friendly and this vial little beast even tried to bite me when I tried to pat him on the back and offer him a doughnut as well. His breath reeked of really strong coffee and a hit of dung. The exact ownership of these two elves is still being determined but according to elf law they were supposed to take Star Bucky’s place if anything ever happened to him since they are his cousins.

The Ministry is still busy investigating things but the elves told me that xobebeox and the snitch were both wandering around the crime scene performing cleaning charms right before I arrived. I wonder if the Ministry has been made aware of this information. More importantly, the riddles and doughnuts are still missing. We can’t have a competition until these riddles are recovered and the attacker apprehended. The elves are going to patrol the site for evidence while I attempt to remember what I had written down. It could be a LONG week.

Dumbledore’s Army Returns!

In a wonderful surprise gift, many HPFF members joined together and presented the staff with a present….a story of our very own. They even wrote us a little note, which I’m going to share with all of you:

When the first thoughts of a present for the staff began bouncing back and forth between a series of mad PM's, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. A certain passion was struck up that carried through the entirety of the project we so fondly call WPSS (a name created by a frantic duo who literally took hours trying to come up with a suitable name - yes, we are perfectionists).

Back in April members were gathered to a super-secret alcove in the World Wide Web. The mission: Showing the staffers of HPFF how much we truly appreciate all that they do for the site! How? By writing stories about the inspirational leaders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Before we knew it, it had grown immensely, and suddenly it was fifty eight chapters. We had originally been planning for September first, but a few authors had disappeared, so we pulled it all together to include every staff member of Hogwarts, from Apollyon Pringle (who?) to the Prefects such as the famous Ron Weasley.

Obviously, it would take quite some time to read and review every chapter of Fantastic Staff and Where to Find Them, but we can hope that the title conveys a little something to you.

Sincerely,
Your Faithful Followers

Please, if you get a chance, head on over and visit their newly released story. I’ve no doubt it will be a wonderful, enchanting read for all.

Thank you, “Faithful Followers” for everything!
